McKayla Young

February 20, 2021

McKayla Young graduated from North Carolina Central University in May 2021 with a degree in Biomedical Sciences. She was recently hired as the assistant JV volleyball coach at Carolina Friends School. McKayla has a great passion for the game and growth of individuals on and off the court. She has provided private lessons and worked with teams at CUVC and CJV along with assisting with all of NCCU’s volleyball camps for high school students. It is her goal to set up a foundation to further develop the skills of youth who have a passion for the game but lack the resources and facilities.

McKayla had 168 career block assists and 204 career total blocks both rank ninth all-time in program history. Her career average of 0.74 blocks per set ranks 10th all-time in program history. Her .2228 career hitting percentage ranks fourth in NCCU’s DI era.

She spends the little free time she has in the lab doing research, mentoring rising freshman, and spending quality time with her family. McKayla wants those coming in to grow their love for volleyball by growing on the court. She is extremely excited for this upcoming season and all the work that will be dedicated to not only being the best team but creating the best players.
